Firefighter William T. Grant
Chicago Fire Department

On March 23, 2007, Truck 51 of Engine  Company 84 was responding to what turned out to be a false alarm. Traveling west on 59th Street at Wells Street, the fire truck and an empty school bus collided at the intersection, the bus hitting the truck at the right rear wheel. The impact caused the fire truck to spin 180 degrees, and flip end over end, landing on its side, crushing Firefighter Grant and injuring three others.

Firefighter Grant left his widow, Sharon, and three children: Kristin, 7; Caroline, 6; and Daniel, 3. Thus far the club has expended $49,857.91 in this matter. Educational assistance will be available at the appropriate times.
